AI's Getting Personal... and Legal?
Your weekly guide to staying human in an AI world

Hey Conscious Church Fam
From robots writing laws to Disney taking on AI copyright, this week has been wild. Apple made some quiet moves, Google’s helping the UK plan homes, and OpenAI’s in a privacy mess that might make you think twice about what you type. Whether you’re building for church, business, or just curious about what’s next—there’s a lot to digest. Let’s jump in.
In today's recap:
OpenAI is being forced to keep every conversation—yep, even the ones you delete
Apple’s WWDC left us wondering if they’ve missed the AI memo
The UK is using Google Gemini to speed up housing development
Disney and Universal are suing Midjourney over copyright infringement
An AI-generated advert just aired during the NBA Finals (and it’s wild)
Let’s dive in 👇
💭 Josh’s Musings
Another week’s flown by—and after some time off the grid in Wales at a prayer house, I’ve come back with fresh eyes and a bit of margin. And what do you do when you get a bit of space?
You watch a new series You build something. (& maybe the series too lol).
This week I’ve been playing with Bolt.new—a tool I mentioned a few weeks ago (having a hackathon in June. So with the free credits, I figured, why not finally breathe life into that idea I’ve been sitting on for years?
The idea?
A testimony platform.
A place where anyone, anywhere, could share what God’s done—mapped by location, tagged by category, displayed beautifully like a living, breathing blog of God’s goodness.
It’s one of those things I dreamed about but never built.
Because… I’m not a developer.
And I didn’t have the time, the cash, to begin.
But now? With the right tools and a bit of curiosity?
I’ve built the first version. Nearly live. Minimal code. Zero dev team. Just vision, prompts, and late-night problem-solving.
And here’s the part that’s got me fired up…
As I worked on it, I realised:
What if churches could white label this?
What if every church could have their own “testimony hub” — customised branding, private dashboard, easy moderation — and finally capture what God is doing in their community?
Imagine a page like:
yourchurch.com/testimonies
With forms for people to submit stories…
An approval queue…
And maybe even end-of-year reports like:
“This year, your church logged 19 stories of provision, 7 of healing, 3 of restoration.”
Your own Spotify style Your Church Wrapped.
That’s when I realised—this isn’t just a fun experiment.
It’s a prototype for something way bigger perhaps.
And here’s the best part:
I am not a tech wizard.
I don’t know JavaScript. I barely understand APIs.
But I do know how to prompt, how to test, how to dream—and how to not quit too early.
These new tools? They let me build something that 3-4 years ago would’ve taken a team and a budget I didn’t have.
And that’s what I want to tell you:
This is your moment to create.
You’ve got ideas.
You’ve got vision.
You don’t need to wait for permission.
Whether it’s a dashboard, a devotional tool, a new way to tell stories with video or disciple people—prompt it into existence.
Play. Break stuff. Try again. Ask better questions.
Because the gap between idea and implementation has never been smaller.
And no, I’m not saying every experiment will become a product.
But every experiment will teach you something.
Stay curious.
Stay Kingdom-minded.

LATEST NEWS

Recap: A judge has ruled that OpenAI must retain all user conversations—even the ones users manually delete—as part of their ongoing legal battle with The New York Times.
The Details:
Applies to all ChatGPT users (free, Plus, Pro, Team)
The NYT fears users are using ChatGPT to plagiarise their content, then deleting the chats
Sam Altman called it an “inappropriate request” and suggested an “AI privilege” idea (think doctor-patient confidentiality, but for AI)
Only Enterprise, Edu, and API customers on zero-retention contracts are excluded
Conscious Take:
As more people use ChatGPT like a journal or life coach, this raises huge questions around digital trust. This could shatter trust in these tools just as they are becoming more embedded into our day to day lives and workflows.

Recap: Apple made a few cautious AI announcements at WWDC—some helpful upgrades, but it’s clear they’re not leading this race (yet).
The Details:
Live translation now works across Messages, FaceTime, and phone calls, with all data processed locally
Visual intelligence lets you ask ChatGPT-style questions about on-screen images
Shortcuts app adds AI-powered automations, tapping into ChatGPT
On-device AI is now available to developers with no API cost
Apple Watch introduces “Workout Buddy”—an AI voice coach
Conscious Take:
Apple’s known for slow, polished moves—but in the AI space, they’re starting to look more reactive than revolutionary. It has felt ‘odd’ from them especially when every other company under the sun seems to be going all out to ship AI products. Perhaps they have a secretive, mighty plan brewing? But is time running out?

Recap: The UK is trialling a new AI tool called Extract to help scan, digitise, and analyse thousands of planning documents—hoping to speed up housing approvals and cut the red tape.
The Details:
Built with Google’s Gemini, Extract can handle blurry maps, scanned forms, and handwritten notes
Tasks that take a human 2 hours? Done in 40 seconds
Being trialled across councils, with national rollout aimed for 2026
It’s all part of a wider effort to meet the UK’s target of building 1.5M homes
Conscious Take:
It’s not all robots, silly videos and deepfakes, some of AI’s biggest wins might be in fixing broken bureaucratic systems. Good tech in the hands of wise planners could lead to real blessing for communities. Let’s pray for wisdom for those implementing and utlising this.

Recap: Disney, Marvel, Lucasfilm, Universal, and others have filed a major lawsuit against Midjourney, accusing the company of enabling widespread copyright infringement through its AI-generated images.
The Details:
The lawsuit includes side-by-side comparisons of Yoda, Spider-Man, Shrek, and more
Hollywood claims Midjourney trained its models on copyrighted content without permission
Disney’s lawyer: “AI is exciting, but piracy is piracy”
Could set a major precedent around fair use in AI training
Conscious Take:
This case could reshape the creative AI landscape. While tech often outpaces law, this moment reminds us there’s a sacred value to originality, and stealing someone else’s creative work (even with AI) still matters.

Recap: Kalshi aired one of the first AI-generated adverts during Game 3 of the NBA Finals. Built in just 2 days using Google’s Veo 3, it’s a glimpse of where ads might be heading.
The Details:
Created using over 300 generations from Veo 3
Workflow included Gemini and ChatGPT to write scripts and design prompts
Cost was roughly 95% less than traditional production
Challenges included subtitle glitches and inconsistent voice syncing
Conscious Take:
It’s raw. It’s chaotic. It’s fun. It’s also 10x faster and cheaper than a traditional ad. This puts it into perspective… Truly creative ideas are your only limitation. These tools are getting better at the output, now it’s on us as humans infused with the Spirit of God to play and create!
